Foundations

• This system will evenly distribute the loadings around the perimeter, internal walls take some of the roof loadings. Depending on B.S. or Building regulations and ground conditions, these loads are transferred to the substrate on Pillars, Piles, Concrete Strip Foundation or Concrete raft.

A site visit is always required before a quotation can be provided.

Floor

• Minimum ex 31mm Tongue and groove boarding face screwed to ex 100 x 50 framing to reduce creak and allow easy subsequent access. A vapour barrier is fitted over the tanalised framework and 100mm of Crown Wool or polystyrene - U Value 0.37 W/m2 deg. C or Foil Tek Double – U Value 0.25 W/m2 K.

The floor is coated (normally by the customer) with Polyurethene Floor Varnish to enhance the appearance with rich clarity.

Exterior Walls

• Fig. 1 shows Softwood 70mm triple finger interlocking joint along the full length of each log.

• Alternatively wallboards can be insulated and studded with Phenolic foam and foil board, Studding and match boarding or insulated plasterboarding .

• At each corner the wood is machined with a weather resistant cross-halved joint, which adds extra rigidity to the structure (see figs 3 & 4 below).

• The external walls are coated with a combination of Butinox 1, which comes in a large selection of standard and non-standard colours. It provides additional fungicide, insecticide & UV protection. Two coats of Butinox 4 clear are then applied which gives a UV & weather shield. Every 5/6 years one further coat of Butinox 4 will be required to maintain the external finish (see manufacturers details).

Interior Walls

• Softwood 50/70mm double/triple finger interlocking joint along the full length of each log. At each corner the wood is machined with a weather resistant cross-halved joint, which adds extra rigidity to the structure.

• The use of integral partition walls as part of the building footprint adds to the rigidity of the dwelling.

Roof

• Support comprises one full-length ridge purlin and intermediate (mid-span) purlins.

• Above the purlins 18mm thick stress relieved tongue & grooved roofboards are fixed. These attractively finished boards are visible from the inside of the cabin and provide a finish contemporary to the rest of the cabin.

• Above the roofboards Thermaroof TR31 (Aerodeck) or Celotex Tempchek Deck TD2000 (which is a rigid closed cell foam with two skins of reflective foil) between 50 x 50mm or 50 x 100mm R/S carcassing and 18 - 25mm plywood board laminated on one side is fitted. • The final coat is a double layer of glass fibre reinforced bituminous felt rectangular shingles which have a 15 year warranty and achieve a fire rating of: Ext. S.A.A. Colour choice: Slate grey, Two tone red, Brown and Green.

Optional internal decorative finish to 4 above would be 12mm matchboard. Extra over cost £8.20/m2

Roof Overhangs

• Large roof overhangs of 250mm or more at the eaves protect the wall logs from adverse weather.

• Apex overhangs do the same as 1 above and offer cabins with integral balconies further protection when the weather becomes stormy.

• Overhangs offer additional protection to the occupants from the hot summer sun.

• In wintertime when the azimuth of the sun is lower, rays can penetrate under the Eaves to supply welcome warmth and light.
