Advent candles and Christmas candles make brilliant Christmas decorations that actually help to remind you (more so than a chocolate reindeer) what Christmas is really all about.

Our Christmas candles come in all shapes and sizes and degrees of decoration. If you would like a single candles that displays a scale showing the days of Advent counting down to Christmas, then our single Christmas candles are for you.

If you'd prefer to add multiple sparkles to your Christmas celebrations, try our glitter tea light candles.

Whichever candles you choose, we hope you have a very merry Christmas!

Advent is a term from the Latin word 'adventus' which means "arrival". In Christianity, Advent is a time of waiting for the arrival of Christmas.

Advent begins on the nearest Sunday to 30th November (St. Andrew's Day) and ends at midnight on Christmas Eve. Advent Sunday is the first of the four Sundays before the 25th December.

Advent dates for 2008 are:

  • 30 November - First Sunday of Advent 2008

  • 07 December - Second Sunday of Advent 2008

  • 14 December - Third Sunday of Advent 2008

  • 21 December - Fourth Sunday of Advent 2008

  • 25 December: Christmas 2008

In the traditional advent wreath, each of the five candles is lit on one of the Sundays of Advent until the fifth and final central candle is lit on Christmas Day. The outer four candles stand for:

    1. God's people -The Candle of hope

    2. The Old Testament prophets - The Candle of Peace

    3. John the Baptist - The Candle of Love

    4. Mary the mother of Jesus - The Candle of Joy
