Description
Brand new specification, last updated on: 6th May 2008 As one of Nikko's official UK stockists we are please to announce the launch of the new R2-D2 Home entertainment droid. Nikko say it will be the “New Force in Home Electronics in 2008”. We think this R2-D2 projector is the absolute epitome of film memorabilia and a must for Star Wars and general film buffs alike. This replica is an accurate 1/2 scale R2-D2 with convenient carrying handles hidden in the legs. R2 has a projector installed in his dome, capable of producing up to a 6.6m (diagonal) image. The remote control to control R2’s movements, video and audio functions – it even gives you control over a docked iPod’s menu, which itself can be projected onto a wall – is shaped like the Millennium Falcon! Both R2 and the Falcon also have light and sound effects for the full Star Wars experience. R2 has a built-in DVD player which plays multiple formats and audio files (please see below for details). Both stereo and surround sound can be experienced using R2’s integrated 20W speakers. You can connect other devices to R2 using the video and audio ports and project material from memory cards, USB flash drives and your iPod (see below for compatability details). R2 can also move forward, backwards, turn sideways and his head rotates. When his legs are tilted, it’s even possible to project onto the ceiling. Thankfully, R2 has built-in safety sensors to make sure you don't crash into the wall, or try to project images onto a wall that's too close (the wall should be at least 1.0m away)! You don’t even need to worry about capturing some of the ‘force’ in order to power R2 – he’s powered by a rechargeable battery! It's even possible to watch TV with the R2-D2 DVD Projector. However, you will need to connect it with a videorecorder with built-in TV-tuner or another device that can pass the TV channel to R2-D2. This is possible with the connection panel at the rear of R2. RCA, S-VHS and DV-I connections make it possible to attach videorecorders, camcorders, PCs etc. As with any projector, the lamp will need replacement sooner or later. The expected lamp life is around 3,000hrs in Eco mode (1500Lumen) or 2,000hrs in Normal mode (1800 Lumen). Since the lumen difference for the eye is smaller, we put it in ECO mode here. You can however switch modes whenever you want, but the total combined lamplife is limited. There is a chart in the manual that will explain how the lamplife will depend on the combined use of Eco and Normal modes. The price of the replacment lamp is still pending but expected to be around 250-300 euros. Please note that due to the nature of this product, you cannot replace the lamp yourself and a Service Centre will need to be contacted.
